The good thing about
Cádiz is that you always have something to choose from. One can enjoy the beaches, visit the bodegas, follow the route of the white villages or embarque to observe dolphins and whales ….. and everything within a short distance.
The province has got 260 km of coast and 138 km of beaches: small bays, sandy beaches of various kilometres, beaches suitable for families, more intimate beaches, some where the land turns into beach, coasts with tranquile and cristal clear water and others with more waves. There are some open beaches affected by the wind and others protected from the breeze,
white and sandy beaches, close to towns or hidden behind rocks.
In
Tarifa visitors have the possibility to get more information about the
marine fauna and enjoy them by watching whales and dolphins very closely. All this close to the African continent and opposite of the strait of Gilbraltar.
In and around
Jerez there are more than 40
wine cellars, authentic wine museums, full of history,odd legends and old tools... an atmosphere just like in a movie.
One of the Jerez highlights without any doubt is a visit of the famous horse show presented by the “
Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre”, an authentic ballet.
The capital of the province is the oldest occidental city with its 3.000 years of history and has been home to Tartessians and Phoenicians. The Romans as well as the Visigodos also left their marks. From 711 a. C. Cádiz was Muslim territory until Alfonso X the Wise incorporated
Cádiz into its kingdom of Castilla back in the 18th century.
But
Cádiz means also celebration. The province has a total of 265 days of celebration and cultural events such as the
Carneval of Cádiz, the Horse Fair in Jerez or the horse races at the beach of Sanlucar de Barrameda. The province’s cuisine is influenced by wine, vegetables, sea food and fish. The gastronomy is the result of 3.000 years of cooking with exquisit, traditional and inovative tastes and flavours.
There is a great variety of White Villages in the “
Sierra de Cádiz”. Along this particular route one can visit very interesting places: the blanket manifactory of Grazalema, the oil – mill of Zahara de la Sierra where you can follow the process of olive oil prodution or the famous hand made leather products of Ubrique.
To enjoy adventure and nature there are different companies which organise amongst other activities: rafting, climing, caving, hiking, canoeing, hang – gliding, para - gliding, hot air balloon flights, indoor climing and diving.
In addition to those sports activities one can also play golf, go horse riding, sailing, go on a bycicle tour or practice many other activities.
