The Finca Son Roig is about 45 min. Distance to the airport of Palma de Mallorca and located in the peaceful area of
Porreres. Due to its centric location in the Island, 5 km to the centre of Porreres and 8 km distance to
Vilafranca and Felanitx, one can reach easily all points of the Island and therefore organize all kinds of interesting excursions.
Over many centuries agriculture was the main source of income of Porreres. A clear sign are the
36 windmills which are still in their original conditions as well as the beautiful old farmhouses and shrines of which you should at least visit the one in
Monti-Sión where you can enjoy a spectacular view over the island.
The
villages situated in the valleys are rich in culture and hand man craft. Many times its streets are decorated with local markets and stands offering craftwork.
A lot of
hidden bays with its crystal clear water and white sand can be discovered. Porto Colom is such a little place with a picturesque harbour where you can still find that typical Mediterranean charm.
The
gastronomy of
Majorca with its great variety of local products has a lot to offer. Typical dishes are the some soups which are served with slices of bread and vegetables.
Another one is the Majorcan salad - Trempó, or Tumbet - a side dish made of potatoes, egg plant and red pepper. Of course the most famous one is the traditional Pa amb Oli, made of bread, sausages such as Sobrasada, Camaiot and Olive Oil Virgen extra.
Not to forget the Porcella, the rice Brut, egg plants stuffed with meat, snails and a great variety of fried fish and sea food. Typical pastries such as Ensaimada Mallorquina, a puff pastry which is very popular amongst the visitors of Majorca as well as the famous potato cakes, vegetable cakes, the so called Cocarroi, the Crespells, or Panades which is pastry stuffed with meat and Robiols, (a special pastry made over the Easter period). Very popular as well are the traditional herb liqueurs, sweet or dry and mixed with different flavours such as mint and coriander, peppermint, marjoram, camomile, fennel and other herbs of the island. But what would be a good meal without a good wine. Majorca due to its climate, the protection of the hills in the East and the fertile soil can look back on a very long wine tradition. You only have to choose amongst a great variety of exceptional wines.
