Minorca, a magnificent island because of its great variety of Mediterranean landscapes, was declared Reservation of the Biosphere by the U.N.E.S.C.O. in 1993, a distinction that recognizes the harmony shared by the Minorcan inhabitants and the natural surroundings throughout years.

In Minorca you can find a pure state of beauty: a landscape without artificial colourings or preserving. The island offers surprising sensations in the nature parks as the Albufera Natural Park (a paradise for migrating birds, fish and reptiles). The island holds an uncountable number of beaches. There are beaches for all tastes, from long soft sandy ones to hidden coves where one can bathe in crystal waters. But, Minorca is not only beaches. It is also a natural treasure with gorges. These ravines are an authentic natural event, holding a variety of flora with 220 species which cohabit with the remainings of mares stone quarries and prehistoric constructions. More than ten underwater caves which aren't found anywhere else. There are underwater caves as well and Minorca bears over fifty inland caves to explore. The inland landscape is not less surprising thanks to the colourful vegetation offered. Even along the roads one can observe the thistles, orchidaceous and chrysanthemums contrasting with the black and white cows; a colour spectre which achieves an incomparable chromatic beauty.

A mystery still alive today can be found in its stones; in its megalithic constructions, its fortresses of the past, capable of captivating whoever approaches them and sharing the fascinating secrets of an island converted into a real open air museum. The historical patrimony of Minorca is inexhaustible. Over a thousand prehistoric monuments have been numbered: artificial caves, remains of the roman era and signs of the Muslim period as well as structures of Palo Christian churches.

Minorca Cathedral is the clearest example of this wealthy patrimony as well as the most important gothic representative of the island. The Toro Sanctuary inhabited by a Franciscan community, at the top of El Toro Mountain, has a unique beauty. The palaces, with various centuries of age, will draw your attention thanks to its great expressiveness in its architectonic lines, which represent perfectly the influence of the Minorcan aristocracy.

There are many museums which give us an approach to the island's cultural reality. The local festivities are celebrated during the summer throughout the different towns like the Sant Joan festivity or the Diada of Sant Antoni.

Minorca also offers a countless number of country paths allowing us to discover surprising landscapes with the sea's aroma as our everlasting travel mate. These can be walked along following established routes, by bike, taking advantage of its flatness or experiencing an exciting feeling of freedom on horseback along the coastline. Known as the Island of wind, Minorca is the longed for scenery for those who love sailing, windsurf, Canoeing or diving. One can also relax with a game of golf surrounded by wonderful nature. Even for families Minorca holds a wide offer of sports grounds where you can practise a number of activities.

The Minorcan gastronomy owns a very particular history. The recipe of each dish we taste holds a compendium of history and civilizations, improved by the pass of the years. It is worth it to find out!
