Sports tourism in Mallorca

For many people, doing a sport has become a habit, which many do not want to give up even during their vacations. It is part of their day-to-day life and of leisure time. Therefore, when choosing where to stay, they opt for hotels that able them to practice different sports such as swimming, tennis, cycling, or spending hours in a well-equipped gym to lift weights.

In the same way, when choosing a destination, tourists focus on areas that offer a variety of landscapes that allow them to carry out outdoor activities while enjoying spectacular views. A clear example of this is Mallorca.

Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. The island includes highly scenic routes for all fitness levels, which is why Mallorca is full of cyclists in spring and autumn. It has more than 18 miles of coastline, fine sand beaches, and modern hotel infrastructures, which is the ideal relaxing environment.

Mallorca is called a “training paradise” by countless athletes and cyclists trying to qualify for one of the world's most famous and demanding competitions, the Ironman.

Ironman: The Story

During the celebration of the Waikiki Swim Club commemorative banquet, John Collins, a naval officer stationed in Hawaii, and his wife, Judy, had the idea of combining the 3 most recognized disciplines on the island, in a single race. They came up with the idea of creating a unique challenge to see which athletes were the most resistant: swimming, cycling, or marathon. In February 1978, 15 competitors, including John Collins himself, gathered on the shores of Waikiki for the 1st Ironman Challenge.

The first to reach the finish line would be called "The Iron Man".

In 1980 its creators John and Judy Collins gave permission to film the event to the ABC Wide World of Sports, thus giving the Ironman worldwide recognition.

Zafiro IRONMAN® 70.3® Alcudia-Mallorca

Alcudia will once again be the place chosen to celebrate the Zafiro IRONMAN® 70.3®, which will take place on May 13, 2023. This competition will start in Puerto de Alcudia, where competitors must swim 1.2 miles and then travel by bike 56 miles, through emblematic cities such as Caimari, Sa Pobla, and Muro. Finally, they must complete a (13.1-mile) half marathon around the longest beach in Mallorca, the Bay of Alcudia. The finalists will find the finish line in the beach area, about 50 meters from the starting point of the swimming stage.

Suppose you want to enjoy the Ironman experience. In that case, we recommend you stay at our sports hotel in Mallorca, Valentin Playa de Muro, which in addition to having sports areas, a semi-Olympic-size swimming pool, and a gym, in its surroundings you can do many other activities such as road cycling or trekking in the natural environment of the S'Albufera Park.

The Valentin Playa de Muro has a bicycle workshop attached to the hotel, where you can carry out any type of repair and even rent a bicycle. We invite you to live this experience with us, book your room and get ready to give your best.
